Pastoral Search Team Good news! I have been in touch with Rev. Jonna Jenkins, the UCC representative who will be assisting us in the process of searching for a new minister. Rev. Jenkins indicated that there are several avenues to choose from moving forward in this process. The first is selecting a search committee. It is her thought that the committee represent cross sections of the congregation and also that each member be interested in serving. Might you be interested in serving? Please take some time to think and pray about what this would mean to you, the church, and to the community. Please give me a call if you would like to have a conversation with me at 207-829-5940. We would love to have the first meeting with Rev. Jenkins sometime in March if at all possible.Thank you! Marsha Heath, Moderator |

Mindfulness Practices for Equanimity and Even Joy in Difficult TimesWednesday, March 2nd, will begin an 8-week ‘lunch-hour’ study of mindfulness meditation being offered by the State Street UCC Church in Portland, Maine. Led by Cheryl Anderson, the class will meet on Zoom, weekly on Wednesdays, 11:00am-12:30pm. Each session will include guided meditation, teaching, discussion, and weekly suggestions for simple daily mindfulness practices to calm the mind and incline the heart toward joy. The class will cover the basics of mindfulness meditation as well as provide support for more experienced meditators’ practice. In this course, we will uncover habits of mind that interfere with our happiness and inner peace and learn practices to retrain the mind toward loving kindness, compassion for self and others, forgiveness, gratitude, equanimity, appreciative joy, and even mindful eating for weight loss. Rev. Cheryl Anderson is a retired United Church of Christ pastor, having served a congregation in Connecticut for 22 years. She is also trained and certified to teach Mindfulness Meditation (in the Buddhist tradition) by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. She teaches Christian spiritual practices as well and is certified by the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation to lead contemplative groups and retreats. Cheryl has also studied and taught Non-Violent Communication, and Appreciative Inquiry. HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE CLASS Cheryl Anderson is offering this study to raise money for a desperately needed new heating system at State Street Church, where she is a member. The suggested donation for the course is $80; but any level of support will be welcome and appreciated. Registration is limited, so pre-registration is necessary. To register, you can either send your name and email address along with a donation check made out to State Street Church at PO Box 4037, Portland, ME 04101 or you can make the donation on line by going to https://statestreetchurch.org/giving/ and clicking on “Give Here.” Enter your donation amount in the Mindfulness Class box. If you have questions about the class, and to receive some preparatory materials for the class, please email Cheryl directly at pastor.cheryl0319@gmail.com. |
Grace Street Ministry Calling all gloves!!!!!! you all have been unbelievably generous this fall as always. Now I am hoping that we can become the ‘glove church’. We are in desperate need of warm gloves for men and women – both knitted and other. I have found some at Job Lots that are not too expensive in the past. Maybe you have another source. Thank you in advance – I would love to be able to share with both Pastor Jeff and Pastor Karen. Thank you, Pastor Nancy |
