Weekly News for October 31

Happy Halloween!

Daylight Saving Time Ends
Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 4. Remember to turn your clocks back one hour before bedtime on Saturday night.

Friday Lunch
The next Friday Lunch is this Friday, November 3 from 11:30-12:30 pm. We will be offering Haddock Chowder with a biscuit, a special, dessert and drinks. Come join us!

All Saints Day – Celebrating Their Lives – our loved ones and the saints of the church who have died this year or in years past – A Service of Holy Communion for All Saints Day will be held this coming Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 9:30am. Please consider bringing a small picture or other item of remembrance with you to be placed on a table during worship (to be taken home with you following worship).

Grace Street Ministry has been given a huge gift of socks for the winter by one church – so we probably have enough for now. We do still need winter coats and gloves (especially for men). Thank you for your continued generosity!
Rodie MacCormack is now at Hawthorne House in Freeport and has just started hospice care. She would welcome visitors.

Talent Show
Fall Talent Show is here! The Youth Group will be hosting the Fall Talent Show on the evening of Saturday, November 3rd at 6:30 pm. We have been rehearsing the songs, skits, and readings, as this is a church wide event. We hope to see everyone come out and join us in celebrating our combined talents. Youth Group will provide concessions at the intermission, with proceeds funding this year’s outings.

Christmas Fair Notes

Jewelry Table
The Christmas Fair folks are looking for gently used jewelry for the jewelry table. If you have some jewelry that you no longer wear would you consider donating it to the Women’s Fellowship/Tuesday Gals for the fair?! You can give it to a Tuesday Gal or bring it into the office and Lyn will make sure that they get it. Thank you!

Pet Place Pantry/Christmas Fair
The Pet Place Pantry, sponsored by the Missions Committee, will have a table at the church fair where it will sell vintage and antique items donated to the Pet Place Pantry. All proceeds from the sale will go directly to the Pet Place Pantry. We are looking for a variety of vintage or antique items, not just glass or china. All we ask is that the item be in good usable condition, and with glass or china, no chips or cracks. Vintage or antique jewelry can also be donated, just let us know that it goes on the Pet Place Pantry table and not the jewelry table. Nice linens, silver or anything else antique or vintage that you would like to donate are most welcome. The items can be brought to church. If they are brought to church, please put a note with them that they are for the Pet Place Pantry so Lyn can call Dale to come and get them. Thank you for your support of the Pet Place Pantry.

Silent Auction
Do you have a craft where you create an item that might draw some nice bids at the Fair’s Silent Auction? Pat Field’s wooden crèche figures come to mind. Do you own/work at a business that might donate a Gift Card? Please think of a good donation that would draw interest (and bids) to the Silent Auction tables at the Christmas Fair. Many of our regulars enjoy bidding on new, fresh items and gift cards; sometimes a bidding war even breaks out!

Youth Group
In addition, the youth group will be partnering with the Cumberland Congregational Church’s youth group in December to create small care packages to be distributed during the holiday season. We are asking church members to help contribute items needed for the packages and will have collections baskets at church. We will be collecting:
New socks – men’s, women’s, and youth
Water bottles
Small toys/stuffed animals
Women’s hygiene products
Tissue packs
Granola bars, etc.

February 2019 Chicken Pie Sale
We are now taking orders for chicken pies and gravy for our February chicken pie sale. A 10 inch pie is $18 and a pint of gravy is $5. Please contact the office or reply to this email to order. There is also an order form on the office desk to place your order.

Coffee Hour
Please consider hosting this wonderful time together for one week or more in the coming year. It is up to you what you bring to share. You may put on a pot of coffee or use the single serve machine (especially nice now that we have reusable coffee pods😇) There will be a sign up sheet in the Gathering Space. Thank you, Pastor Nancy
